Direct Mail Piece Size

Confirming that your direct mail piece size is within the post office regulations can save you hundreds in postage!

Requirements for letters and postcards (width x height):

• Letter maximum size: 11½" x 6-1/8" and 0.009" thick
• Postcard maximum size: 6" x 4¼" and 0.016" thick
• Mail piece minimum size: 5" x 3½" and 0.007" thick
• Maximum thickness: ¼"
• First Class mail: less than 1 ounce
• Presort Standard mail: 3.3 ounces or less

Requirements for flats (width x height):

• Flat minimum size: 11½" x 6-1/8"
• Flat maximum size: 15" x 12"
• Maximum thickness: ¾"

You will always receive a better postage rate if the direct mail piece width is larger than the height of the direct mail piece. A rectangular shape is best. The recipient address must be parrallel with the width side of the direct mail piece.
